There’s nothing tougher for folks with hand troubles than trying to open a jar that even Hercules couldn’t budge. How many times has that happened to you? You’ve tried everything: Run the lid under hot water… Tap it on the counter… Pry it with a bottle opener… Swear mightily. Nothing seems to work. It’s maddening enough when you’re an able-bodied human, but if you have limited hand dexterity, it can be downright depressing.
If opening jars is a challenge for you or someone you love, check out the Hamilton Beach OpenEase™ Automatic Jar Opener. The OpenEase™ Jar Opener is helpful for any cook, and an absolute boon for those with a weak grip or who suffer chronic hand pain.
Hands-Free Simplicity
The OpenEase™ Jar Opener is the perfect solution for opening stubborn glass jar lids. It works with jars of any height from 1” to 4” in diameter. It’s made for people with troubling hand problems such as arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, or carpal tunnel syndrome. The opener is as easy to use as you’d expect from a product designed by consumers, for consumers. It opens most jars without your having to hold onto the jar or the opener itself.
The opener is constructed from high-quality materials to ensure long-term durability. It’s compact, too, and stores easily in a cabinet, countertop, or drawer. A single set of two “AA” batteries (included) supplies enough power to open over 250 jars.
Two large buttons on the top of the opener are the only controls it needs to work its magic. The Open Jar and Release Lid buttons do exactly what you’d expect them to do. Rubberized outer grips hold the jar steady while the inner grips unscrew the jar lid.
How to Use the OpenEase™ Jar Opener
Once you’ve unpacked the opener and removed the pull tab from the battery compartment, you’re ready to have at those aggravating jar lids.
Start by making sure the outer grips are open all the way. Press the Release Lid button to open them.
It’s a good idea to wipe the jar lid clean and dry it so the opener can get a good grip. Set the opener on the jar lid, press the Open Jar button, and watch it do its stuff. If you’re opening a tapered jar – such as the notorious pickle jar — Hamilton Beach recommends you hold the opener down with one hand and the jar with the other. Most owners report this isn’t often necessary.
Once the jar is open, press the Release Lid button to open the inner grips and release the jar lid. To fold the outer arms for easy storage, press the Open Jar button and let the opener go through its cycle until the grips close.
